Role Summary:
The MSL Director is a front-line manager for the field-based medical science liaison (MSL) team. They provide day-to-day coaching and mentoring to a team of 5-8 MSLs in their region.
\n- Leadership and Management: The MSL Director is responsible for leading, directing, and managing the MSLs within their region. This includes providing guidance and direction to the MSLs to gain an understanding of the scientific landscape from Scientific Thought Leaders (STLs) and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and communicating this information to key internal stakeholders across Cerevel’s neuroscience product portfolio
- Medical Brand Strategies: Collaborating with the Senior Director MSLs to provide intelligence for medical brand strategies, implementing strategic and tactical plans based on those strategies, and supporting medical brand strategies and clinical studies across the product portfolio
- Team Development: Developing individual talent within the MSL team, including training, career evaluation, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and talent review. This includes recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new MSLs
- External Engagement: Managing MSL activities related to presenting medical and scientific information to external customers, including medical thought leaders, academic institutions, and managed care organizations
- Professional Engagement: Working with healthcare professionals at the national, regional, and local levels to provide them with current, fair-balanced medical, scientific, and HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research) information regarding the company's products and therapeutic areas
- Clinical Trial Support: Collaborating with investigators and potential investigators and internal development leads in support of clinical development programs
- Compliance: Ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry, as well as company policies and standard operating procedures
- Doctoral degree in a relevant scientific discipline (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP). advanced scientific terminal degree (PharmD, PhD, MD/DO)
- At least 10 years of industry experience, with a minimum of 3 years in neurology
- Three years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry leading a Medical Science Liaison team or a related function
- Meet health Care Industry Representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to enter facilities and organizations. These may include, but are not limited to, background checks, drug screens, proof of immunization/vaccination for various diseases, training on facility policies and adherence to confidentiality and/or HIPPA agreements
- Experience engaging with Phase 2/3 clinical trial sites, in coordination with clinical operations colleagues
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills are required
- The candidate should excel in a matrix environment, have experience in hiring, training, and onboarding MSLs, and demonstrate the ability to work remotely and maintain morale of field-based personnel
- Must be willing to travel at least 60% of the time
- Must have authorization and ability to drive a personal auto, rental, or company car
- Prior drug launch experience as an MSL manager is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work with both externally-focused (field-based) and internally-focused (headquarters-based) personnel
- Strong ethics and personal integrity
- Proven track record of exceeding expectations and driving MSL performance
- Collaboration with cross-functional colleagues and strong scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge
- Thorough understanding of regulatory and ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry
- Effective organization, prioritization, and adaptability in a changing environment
- Proficiency with various technical platforms for data collection, presentation development, and dissemination of medical information
- Doctoral-level degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) in the life sciences
