Engineering and Program Management: This role is part of Enterprise Program Management (EPM), where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training, and subject matter expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. EPM allows all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for a wide variety of aerospace structure, including welded and machined aluminum, and large composite components.

  • Maintain structural design and configuration integrity of primary and secondary structures.

  • Perform repair analysis of primary and secondary metallic and composite structures.

  • Provide technical guidance for structural build and integration

  • Lead efforts to identify, develop, and deploy designs and methodologies that improve operational excellence through quality, cost, design, and process enhancements.

  • Support the manufacturing floor in assembly and installation, compliance to engineering requirements, discrepancy resolution, and component acceptance testing.

  • Perform a hands-on engineering and liaison role between our design, test, and operations teams and our manufacturing customers.

  • Investigate root causes, disposition vehicle discrepancies, and take ownership of preventative and corrective actions.

  • Support the product through design and operational gated reviews by evaluating and aiding in the development of required artifacts.

  • Drive design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) into the designs

  • Authorize in-build redlines and recommend changes to improve the design.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering and 5+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.

  • Familiarity with mechanics of materials, stress/strain, and statics

  • Ability to apply structural mechanics principles using hand calculations

  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis

  • Experience in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA)

  • Demonstrated experience developing manufacturing processes for transition to production.

  • Familiarity with aerospace hardware, fasteners, adhesives, coatings etc.

  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as a cross-disciplined team, throughout the development and production phases of the product lifecycle.

  • Strong coordination and project management skills to track, manage, and prioritize multiple ongoing tasks.

  • Strong digital literacy with the ability to rapidly learn and use a variety of software tools, as needed.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that foster positive professional relationships.

  • Previous experience with engineering change orders and non-conformance processing

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software and processes

  • Understanding of development product lifecycle management and associated gated reviews

  • Experienced with fabrication of composite primary structures for aerospace

  • Basic familiarity with commercially available structures software (Nastran, ANSYS, Abaqus, HyperMesh, etc.)

  • Knowledge of fabrication processes, integration processes, systems engineering practices, test, quality, and configuration management systems

  • Proven experience developing/starting new manufacturing processes

  • Proven understanding and applied experiences in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma

  • Proficiency in business and engineering software (i.e. MSOffice, Windchill, PLM, etc)
