Corelight’s Open Source team seeks an experienced C++ developer interested in building future versions of Zeek with us. This is a full-time, remote position. You will work on Zeek’s open source code base and its related projects with high visibility, and will interact with Zeek’s global user and developer community to integrate feedback and review contributions. Your work will shape Zeek going forward, and your code will become deployed widely by some of the largest organizations in the world. As a member of the Corelight Open Source team you will also be responsible for supporting the symbiosis between Corelight’s commercial and open source missions, by assuring that value flows in both directions.
Responsibilities
- Develop new features for Zeek and Spicy, and maintain the existing code base
- Maintain high-quality technical documentation
- Collaborate effectively with internal Corelight teams to communicate open source development roadmaps and priorities
- Support the Zeek community through the project’s channels (GitHub, Slack, Discourse)
- Collaborate with related open source projects and communities to advance joint interests
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree or Equivalent experience
- 2+ years of software development in modern C++ on Unix-style platforms
- Experience programming in scripting languages (Python) and Unix shells (bash)
- Experience with open source and other common development workflows and tools (e.g., GitHub, Gitlab, Git, CMake)
- Understanding of open source communities.
- Effective communication skill
- Success in collaborating with others both internally and externally
- Able to professionally contribute in team discussions, internal stakeholder meetings, open source project calls, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or above, preferably in computer science or related field
- 5+ years of software development in C++
- A passion for working in an open source environment
- Experience developing programming languages, compilers, and script interpreters
- Demonstrable history of substantial contributions to an open source project
- Experience in security or networking software, in particular network intrusion detection systems
- Understanding of network protocols and tools for analyzing network traffic (tcpdump, Wireshark, Snort, Suricata)
