Based in Durham, North Carolina, Xilis, Inc. is a biotechnology company developing a precision oncology platform that guides treatment decisions for oncologists to improve cancer care outcomes for patients and supports drug discovery and development for pharmaceutical companies. Xilis, Inc. has been developing cutting-edge Patient-Derived Micro-OrganoSpheres (MOS) technology for precision cancer diagnostics and drug development in the Research Triangle Park in Durham, NC. Xilis’ transformative platform recreates patient-specific tumors in their 3D and environmental complexity at micro-scale ex vivo, allowing high-throughput, clinically relevant, and affordable experimental selection of the most effective drugs for every patient in a matter of days. The company aims to transform cancer care by ensuring every patient gets treated promptly with the most appropriate drug(s) available. We are supported in this mission by top Silicon Valley and New York venture firms that are leaders in the healthcare space with extensive experience in supporting precision medicine companies such as Foundation Medicine and Guardant Health.
*This is a flexible, part-time position based on demand (approximately 18-24 hrs per week)*
The candidate will perform quality control and environmental monitoring testing procedures in accordance with SOPs and appropriate regulatory guidelines and help to improve and streamline those processes. This will include performing end-to-end laboratory processes such as PCR/qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, cell-based microscopy and imaging, and operation of critical laboratory equipment. The successful candidate will bring exceptional skills and abilities to the laboratory. He or she will also have strong attention to detail and the integrity to precisely report any deviation or issue observed in the laboratory. The candidate will report to Xilis’ Head of Laboratory Operations.
\n- Participate in all phases of biological sample testing procedures for the Quality Control team
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and cleaning
- Assist with the improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)Identify and document potential QC or processing issues and report to management
- Operate successfully in a rapidly changing, fast-paced, mission-driven environment
- Share thoughts and ideas on how to improve performance in the lab
- Perform support tasks across the company as needs arise
- A.S. or B.S. degree in biology, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in an industry setting
- Hands-on laboratory experience including PCR/qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, and pipetting
- Experience with mammalian cell culture is strongly preferred
- Experience working cross-functionally
- Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication
- A strong sense of commitment, integrity and handling challenges collaborativelyExperience and interest in a high-growth startup is preferred
