Grammarly team members in this role must be based in Eastern Time Zone, and they must be able to collaborate in person 2-3 weeks per quarter depending on business needs, traveling if necessary to the hub(s) where their team is based.

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Group Product Design Manager,  to lead the Design System team. This role requires a visionary leader who can champion design excellence and collaboration across diverse teams while advancing our design system strategy. This role will report directly to our VP of Design.

Your impact

As the Group Product Design Manager, Design Systems, you will collaborate closely with leadership across our Product, Engineering, and Design teams to strategically define, shape, and enhance Grammarly’s user experience. Your responsibilities will include aligning cross-functional stakeholders and fostering trust among teams. Additionally, you will promote a culture of exploration and continuous learning, ensuring the consistent delivery of a high-quality product experience.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage an experienced, multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, content designers, and accessibility specialists.
  • Support the professional development of an experienced design system team through coaching and mentorship.
  • Develop and execute short and long-term strategic roadmaps for the design system, adapting plans to align with evolving business needs.
  • Advocate for the value of the design system at the leadership level and across functional teams.
  • Promote design excellence and quality standards across all products through collaborative efforts with your team and the broader product design organization.
  • Encourage an open-minded, collaborative approach, partnering with product and engineering leads to improve team processes and execution.

  • Has a deep understanding of design systems and a proven track record of successful roadmap execution across multiple products and platforms.
  • Has previous experience leading and managing a multidisciplinary Design System team at an organization of similar or larger scale to Grammarly.
  • Has the ability to effectively communicate the strategic value of the design system to leadership and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proactively seeks and provides opportunities to enhance team capabilities and expand skill sets within the design organization.
  • Has demonstrated success in developing and executing short and long-term strategic roadmaps, with adaptability to evolving needs in design system initiatives.
  • Has experience in driving the integration of design principles within engineering and product teams to elevate overall design quality.
  • Is comfortable assuming a managerial/leadership role while remaining hands-on and actively contributing to project deliverables.
  • Is based on the East Coast, facilitating collaboration with teams on the West Coast and in Europe. Willing to travel to San Francisco for essential leadership meetings as required.

Grammarly takes a market-based approach to compensation, which means base pay may vary depending on your location. Our US and Canada locations are categorized into compensation zones based on each geographic region’s cost of labor index. Base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The expected salary ranges for this San Francisco-based position are outlined below and may be modified in the future. 

United States: 
Zone 1: $250,000 – $305,000/year (USD)
Zone 2: $225,000 – $274,000/year (USD)
